About VAHDI

VAHDI (Virginia Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity) - formerly known as VAMT (Virginia Association of Medical Transcriptionists) - was begun approximately twenty years ago when, on March 26, 1988, an informal meeting of the proposed board members and interested individuals who were willing to work on the formation of a state organization met at NDC Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Many hours were dedicated to this endeavor. On May 20, 1988, a call was received from Brenda Hurley, 1988 AAMT President, notifying this group that they were officially recognized as a state organization of AAMT (American Association of Medical Transcriptionists) - now known as the American Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity, or AHDI.The first State Conference was held on October 15, 1988, at the Omni International Hotel in Norfolk, Virginia, with 53 members and guests present. Membership has grown to over 250 members in 1997. We have grown and will continue to grow because the spirit of its members is alive, and each member willingly works toward the organization's ambitions and goals. Our mission is to promote the professional improvement, integrity and maintenance of healthcare documentation and to recognize and support the members who work toward these goals.
